With our volunteers, you find each day the very best of what it means to be a great citizen and community member. These people give of their time, their energy, and their passion with no expectations of return, accolade, or thanks.  They prepare, train, and respond throughout the year so that others may live.  It remains my great privilege to be associated with them.”

Saving Lives on the Water!

When schooling took him away from his hometown, he looked for a new way to volunteer and found the CCGA where he enjoys serving with some of the best people in this country from coast to coast to coast.

A bit of

background

Randy started out volunteering as a firefighter in a small community on Vancouver Island following in the footsteps of his father and older brother. When schooling took him away from his hometown, he looked for a new way to volunteer and found the CCGA where he enjoys serving with some of the best people in this country from coast to coast to coast. Randy is continuing his family’s connection with the sea, which includes one grandfather who was with the Canadian Coast Guard and the other who was a Merchant Mariner. In the generation following him, his son currently serves in the Royal Canadian Navy.

For a day job, Randy spends his time as the Financial Controller for Seaspan in North Vancouver. Seaspan is involved in ship construction and repair, cargo ferries, fueling, ship docking, tug and barge movements. His office looks onto the Vancouver Harbour which serves as a constant reminder of the beautiful oceans we get to enjoy. He has a business degree from Simon Fraser University and is Chartered Professional Accountant with 25 years of experience in various industries including public practice, real estate, construction and marine transportation. Randy recently returned from a vacation to Ireland where he had the chance to visit a small RNLI station on Achill Island which reminded him that we belong to a much larger group of people worldwide that give of their time to serve those in peril at sea.
